Get a glimpse behind the curtain to learn about our exceptional team—the driving force behind our ability to provide customers with logistics solutions that deliver beyond doubt.
At James Group, we recognize the immense value our people bring to our organization. Our success is built upon the expertise, dedication, and passion of our talented employees who drive our company forward.
That’s why we are delighted to shine the spotlight on one of our newer but invaluable team members, Mufaddal “Mufe” Badshah, a Manufacturing Engineer at Renaissance Global Logistics (RGL).
Q: Tell us about your role. What do you do, and why is it important?
In my role, I function as a catalyst for change, officially holding the title of Manufacturing Engineer. I use my background in processes and technologies to manufacture capital equipment that helps optimize workflows across our warehouse locations. I work at and report directly to a VP level because the change that I propose or implement is directly proportional to the short- and long-term cost savings, contributing to the organization's bottom line. I focus on capital equipment enhancement, ensuring our assets remain effective and up to date. In essence, my role is pivotal in driving positive transformation and strengthening our competitive position in the market.
Q: What is your expertise?
My expertise is a well-rounded balance between manufacturing knowledge, people engagement, and process improvement. These are fundamental strengths of a manufacturing engineer dedicated to driving continuous improvements in both operations and organizations. Outside of my professional pursuits, I am a skilled home chef and an accomplished barista.
Q: Where do you feel you make the biggest difference to customers?
I believe in consistently being present on the shop floor or the production line. I take pleasure in engaging with operators and the day-to-day production workforce. Conversations with them, where I learn about the challenges hindering their performance, enable me to develop more effective improvement strategies. These strategies, over time, enhance their efforts, eliminate non-value-added activities, and reduce job-related stressors. Receiving feedback directly from operators, accompanied by their explanations of how their work has improved, directly contributes to making a difference at RGL and for James Group as a whole.
Q: Why do you enjoy working at James Group?
I genuinely appreciate the work environment and have yet to meet a peer with whom I haven't enjoyed conversing with and sharing knowledge. The work is sufficiently challenging for me to make a significant contribution and have a meaningful impact.
Q: What are you most proud of about your work?
I'm genuinely excited about the changes we've already initiated in our Romulus facilities. I take pride in my substantial contribution, with extensive support from the local operations team. It's gratifying to hear positive feedback about the ongoing changes, and I eagerly anticipate the upcoming months when all the equipment will be in place and operational.
Q: What stands out to you about James Group as a company?
I am truly fascinated by the pivotal role we play in the automotive industry. Prominent companies depend on our expertise to facilitate the transportation of their automotive components worldwide. While many in manufacturing emphasize the speed of producing parts on the machining line, our focus on "end-of-line" processes, ensuring these products reach customers and distribution centers, is equally, if not more, critical in the larger scheme of things.
Q: What’s the one thing you’d want people to take away (if nothing else) about your role?
The role of a manufacturing engineer is inherently dynamic, as one continually transitions from one challenge to the next. My success depends on my ability to be an effective listener—it’s instrumental in understanding the challenges our team encounters, which directly informs my strategies for mitigation and improvement.
